Programs for Toddlers
The toddler years are one of the most remarkable seasons of early childhood. Everything is new. Everything is fascinating. And every single day brings fresh discoveries, new words and the growing realisation that the world is a much bigger and more interesting place than they first thought.
At My First Step, our Toddler program is where play and learning begin to grow together. Children at this stage still learn best through exploration and experience, and we honour that fully. But we also begin to introduce the early academic foundations that prepare them for the years ahead, gently and without pressure, woven naturally into the rhythm of every day.
We welcome children from 3 to 4 years into their own dedicated classroom, a space designed specifically for where they are right now.
A Space That Grows with Them
Our toddler classroom is active, hands-on and full of purposeful opportunities to explore, build, create and discover. It is a step up from the calm of the infant room and a step into a world that rewards curiosity.
Structure gives the day its shape. A consistent rhythm of group time, learning activities, meals, outdoor play and rest helps toddlers feel secure enough to take on new challenges. Within that structure there is always room to follow where a child’s interest leads, because at this age the best learning happens when children are genuinely engaged in what they are doing.
What We Focus On
Letters, Phonics and Numeracy
We begin introducing the alphabet, letter sounds and early number concepts in the toddler years, through songs, stories, games and hands-on activities rather than worksheets or drilling. Counting, sorting, patterns and simple number concepts are woven naturally into daily routines. These small moments of early academic thinking add up over time.
Structured Group Learning
Toddlers begin to experience what it means to learn alongside others. Sitting together for a story, participating in a group activity, listening and taking turns are the earliest experiences of structured learning and they matter as much as the academic content within them.
Music and Science Experiment
Our Myorff Music Program brings music, rhythm and movement into the classroom every day through the Orff Schulwerk approach. Alongside this, our Science Explorer activities channel children’s natural curiosity into structured hands-on discovery, introducing them to the habit of wondering why and figuring out how.
Trilingual Teaching
Our classrooms communicate in English throughout the day. Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia are introduced naturally through songs, stories and daily conversation, giving children early exposure to three languages at the age when the brain is most receptive to them.
Sensory and Physical Play
Toddlers need to move and explore with their whole bodies. Our sensory room, water play area, sand pit and gym give children the physical and sensory experiences their developing brains genuinely need at this stage.
When Your Child Is Ready for More
As your child grows and their curiosity deepens, our Preschool and Kindergarten program is designed to carry them forward.
